13 Idle Merge Games Worth Playing, and What Each One Charges to Skip the Ads

Idle merge games on phone and Steam: 13 picks with store ratings, how each makes money, the remove-ads price where listed, and the traps to watch for.

The best idle merge games right now are NecroMerger, Merge Kingdoms and Zen Shards on mobile, and MergeCrafter or Your Big, Cute Monster Farm if you want to play on a PC. Each takes the simple merge rule, two of a thing make one better thing, and builds a real idle economy around it.

Almost every merge idler is free to play, and the business model shapes the game more than in any other subgenre. So for each pick we checked the store listing in November 2026 and noted whether it shows ads, what in-app purchases it lists, and the price of removing ads where one is offered. Ratings are App Store ratings unless we say Steam. Prices and offers change often in these games, so check the listing before you buy anything.

01

NecroMerger: best for the deepest merge idler on mobile

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Grumpy Rhino Games' NecroMerger has you summon undead creatures, merge them into stronger ones and feed them to a growing Devourer. The lair expands with graves, altars and other stations, champions, merchants and thieves visit, and there are spells and potions on top. The listing counts 70+ creatures and says resources generate while you are offline.

It holds 4.83 stars from 6,394 ratings on the US App Store and has over a million downloads on Google Play. Reviewers praise the progression and the lack of hard paywalls.

Pick it if you want a merge game with real systems, not just bigger numbers on the same board.

Watch out for: It shows ads and sells gems and bundles; a Remove Ads purchase is listed at $9.99. The App Store rates it 18+ for crude humour and mature themes, and lists loot boxes. One reviewer notes a heavy late-game grind without spending.

02

Merge Kingdoms - Tower Defense: best for merge plus tower defense with a long climb

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

FunCraft's Merge Kingdoms has you merge and place towers against wave after wave. Bosses arrive every five waves, long-range towers unlock at wave 300, a prestige mode opens at wave 600, flying enemies arrive at 700, and the final boss waits at wave 1000.

It holds 4.80 stars from 2,182 ratings on the App Store, with over 500,000 downloads on Google Play.

Pick it if you want a clear long-term goal and some strategy in where towers go.

Watch out for: It shows ads, and some reviewers say they appear often. The listing sells VIP tiers ($2.99 to $7.99), gem packs and an Ad-Free Offer at $12.99, the priciest ad removal on this list.

03

Zen Shards: best for a calm, procedural merge game with ASMR sound

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Zen Shards is made by one developer, Benjamin Metzger, as a hobby project. You merge sparks that bounce around and shatter colourful shards, in a calm, procedurally drawn space with soothing sound. It is the most relaxing game on this list.

It holds 4.79 stars from 3,455 ratings on the App Store, and the listing also supports Apple Vision.

Pick it for winding down rather than optimising.

Watch out for: The description says ads and purchases are 100% optional, but the listing does show advertising and ten in-app purchases, from $1.29 packs to a $19.49 large pack. The closest thing to an ad remover is an Ads-Free Boosts purchase at $5.49.

04

Blacksmith - Merge Idle RPG: best for merging weapons with a prestige reset

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Fumb Games' Blacksmith has you merge weapons into more than 81 designs, use runes to multiply gold and duplicate items, and reset for Soul Gems when progress slows. That prestige loop is more than most merge idlers offer.

It holds 4.74 stars from 2,138 ratings on the App Store. The developer's note says it is and will always be 100% free to play, with optional in-app purchases and advertising.

Pick it if you want a merge game that also teaches the prestige idea.

Watch out for: Its last App Store update was in February 2022, so treat it as finished, not growing, and expect occasional rough edges on newer phones.

05

Idle Pocket Planet: best for merging settlements into tiny worlds

Platform: Mobile, Browser · free-to-play

Idle Pocket Planet has you combine settlements and ships on small planets to build new constructs, colonise strange galaxies, and fill a journal with artifacts. The tiny planets and collection log give it more charm than the usual grid of identical items.

It holds 4.75 stars from 2,223 ratings on the App Store and has over a million downloads on Google Play.

Pick it if you like collecting and want each merge to show you something new.

Watch out for: Google Play lists ads and in-app purchases.

06

Cow Evolution: best for the long-running classic of merge-to-evolve

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Tapps' Cow Evolution has been on the App Store since 2014. You combine cows into ever stranger mutant species, dress them up and tap to gather resources. It started a whole family of evolution games from the same studio, including Shark and Fox Evolution.

It holds 4.73 stars from 23,870 ratings on the App Store and has over 10 million downloads on Google Play, and it was still being updated in October 2026.

Pick it for silly, low-effort fun with a lot of history behind it.

Watch out for: Google Play lists ads and in-app purchases. The humour is crude in places, and there is little depth beyond discovering the next mutation.

07

Candy Critters: Idle Merge: best for a newer, cute merge game with offline progress

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

PlaySide's Candy Critters (2024) has you buy and merge cute critters that chew through candy blocks to uncover coins and treasure across a sugary world. The listing promises progress while you are away or offline.

It holds 4.76 stars from 2,938 ratings on the App Store and has over 500,000 downloads on Google Play.

Pick it if you want something bright and simple for short check-ins.

Watch out for: Google Play lists ads and in-app purchases.

08

Merge and Dig: best for the most-rated merge idler we found

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Supersonic Studios' Merge and Dig has you merge pickaxes into stronger ones and drop them onto blocks to mine resources and grow a mining empire, with idle rewards building while you are away.

It has 127,044 ratings on the App Store at 4.69 stars, far more than any other game here, which tells you how widely it is played.

Pick it if you want the simplest possible merge loop with a satisfying dig.

Watch out for: The listing shows advertising, and several reviews complain about frequent or forced ads, including one saying pop-ups continued after paying. Ad removal is sold as No Ads at $2.99, alongside bundles up to $9.99. Rated 13+.

09

Merge Planes Idle Tycoon: best for playing on a flight or with no signal

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Baxter Games' Merge Planes starts you with one plane on a runway. You merge planes into better ones, fly them for money, and upgrade the runway. The listing stresses that it can be played offline.

It holds 4.70 stars from 19,256 ratings on the App Store.

Pick it if you want a merge game for travel, when ads and connections are unreliable anyway.

Watch out for: The listing shows advertising, and a 2025 review complains about too many ads. It sells a $4.99 membership and diamond packs, but no separate remove-ads purchase is listed.

10

Merge Bakery: best for merging recipes into a bakery you redecorate

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Full Fat's Merge Bakery has you merge recipes to unlock over 40 baked treats, serve customers, and redecorate a bakery that starts as a waffle stand. It mixes merging with a light shop-management layer.

It holds 4.69 stars from 7,824 ratings on the App Store.

Pick it if you like cozy shop games and want a merge mechanic inside one.

Watch out for: Its ad-free option is a VIP subscription with a three-day free trial, which the listing says removes pop-up ads and boosts offline earnings. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn them off, so set a reminder if you try it. Google Play lists ads and in-app purchases.

11

Your Big, Cute Monster Farm: best for a merge farm along the bottom of your PC screen

Platform: Steam · paid

KaiPlay Studio's Your Big, Cute Monster Farm is a casual idle farm that lives in a strip at the bottom of your screen. Monster helpers till, plant, water and harvest on their own while you arrange plots, decorate, hatch new workers and merge their abilities.

It costs $7.99 on Steam for Windows, released November 2025, and 78% of 1,123 Steam reviews are positive. There are no ads.

Pick it if you want a merge idler for your desk, not your phone.

Watch out for: It is built to sit on screen while you work, so it suits a wide monitor; it is Windows only.

12

MergeCrafter: best for a free merge game on Steam with crafting

Platform: Steam · free

MergeCrafter by Fiveamp, who also made PickCrafter, has you merge matching items into better resources: merge 3, merge 5 for bonuses, or chain 9+ for mega merges. You craft and enchant tools, set up passive mining drills and tree farms, and explore biomes and dungeons in the world of Runaria.

It is free on Steam for Windows and Mac, and 71% of 964 Steam reviews are positive.

Pick it if you want the mobile merge feel on a PC with a mouse.

Watch out for: Steam lists in-app purchases, and its review score is mixed for a free game, so try it before committing hours.

13

Idle Pins: best for incremental fans who want merging with depth

Platform: Steam, Browser · free

Idle Pins by Arkshija, made by one developer as a hobby, describes itself as an incremental made by an incremental addict for incremental lovers. You fuse over 250 pins into stronger or entirely new ones, slot them into formations with special bonuses, push through zones, and prestige by seasons.

It is free on Steam for Windows and on Kongregate. 62% of 553 Steam reviews are positive.

Pick it if mobile merge games feel too shallow and you want one built for the incremental crowd.

Watch out for: Its Steam reviews are mixed, and Steam lists in-app purchases. The depth that fans like is also what puts casual players off.

How to choose an idle merge game

Merge games look alike in screenshots. They differ in depth and in how hard they push you to pay.

01

Read the purchase list before the reviews

On the App Store, scroll to In-App Purchases. A single remove-ads option, like Merge and Dig's $2.99, is easier to live with than a subscription, like Merge Bakery's VIP pass. If you want none of this, see our idle games with no ads and without microtransactions guides.

02

Decide how deep you want to go

For systems on top of merging, pick NecroMerger, Merge Kingdoms or Idle Pins. For simple, relaxing loops, Zen Shards, Candy Critters or Cow Evolution.

03

Pick the device first

Most merge idlers are phone-first. On a PC, Your Big, Cute Monster Farm is the paid, ad-free option and MergeCrafter the free one. For a flight, Merge Planes says it plays offline. Our mobile idle games list covers more phone picks.

Merge two things tonight

Install NecroMerger if you want the deepest game, or Zen Shards if you want to relax. Play for a day before you spend anything, and if you do pay, a one-time remove-ads purchase is the safest buy.

If you would rather have no shop at all, Your Big, Cute Monster Farm on Steam is the one paid, ad-free pick here.
