13 Idle Space Games, From One-Evening Black Holes to Galaxy-Sized Grinds

Idle space games sorted by how long they last: 13 picks from short asteroid miners to months-long fleet idlers, with prices, scores and honest caveats.

If you want one idle space game to live in for months, play Unnamed Space Idle: free, 92% positive on Steam, and built from more than ten interlocking systems. If you want a story you can finish tonight, play Spaceplan. If you want a classic browser resource chain that ends in Dyson spheres, open Space Company.

Space is one of the most common settings in our catalog (92 games carry the tag), so the useful question is not which games are set in space but how much of your life each one wants. The 13 picks below run from a one-hour asteroid shooter to games with no end, across Steam, browser and phone. Steam review shares come from the store's counts and prices are US Steam listings, both as of November 2026.

01

Unnamed Space Idle: best for a long free space idler with real build choices

Platform: Browser, Steam · free

Unnamed Space Idle has you fight endless waves of alien ships with a customizable ship, choosing weapons and defenses to counter specific enemy types. Its depth is in the systems that open up over time: cores upgraded with salvage, Compute for steady stat gains, Synth crafting, a Void Device for shard combinations, a Reactor, Research and several prestige layers that grant new ships and weapons. The Steam page counts over ten distinct systems.

It is free on Steam (Windows and Linux, Early Access, with in-app purchases), on iPhone, and in the browser on galaxy.click. On Steam it has 92% positive from 4,491 reviews as of November 2026. Some players describe it as Melvor Idle with a spaceship in place of a character.

Pick it if you want a game to check every day for weeks.

Watch out for: No Mac build on Steam, so Mac players should use the browser version. In-app purchases exist, though the game is free to start.

02

Spaceplan: best for a funny space story you finish in one sitting

Platform: Steam, Mobile · paid

Spaceplan is a narrative clicker "based partly on a total misunderstanding of Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time". From a satellite orbiting a mysterious planet, you click and wait to build and launch potato-based devices and probes, across fifteen starchy items and five planets in two realities.

It is $2.99 on Steam for Windows and Mac, published by Devolver Digital, with 91% positive from 3,439 reviews as of November 2026. Our catalog records an ending, 1 to 3 hours, and no offline progress.

Pick it if you want the incremental genre as a short story with a soundtrack, not a lifestyle. It is one of the better first idle games to show a friend.

Watch out for: It is short and finished. Players who want endless numbers will be done before they settle in.

03

To The Core: best for drilling planets one fuel tank at a time

Platform: Steam · paid

To The Core sends a drill across a solar system. You land on a planet, drill until your fuel runs out, and spend what you collected on durability, fuel, damage and odder upgrades. Each planet is tougher than the last, and an automatic mastery system buffs resources the more you mine them: the store page's example is 100 iron giving 5% more drop rate.

It is $7.99 on Steam with 93% positive from 4,678 reviews as of November 2026.

Pick it if you like short runs that end in a shopping trip. If that loop hooks you, our roguelite incremental games guide is full of games built on it.

Watch out for: Windows only, and it is an active game: the drill does not run while you are away.

04

Space Company: best for classic browser resource chains that end in Dyson spheres

Platform: Browser · free

Space Company is a free browser game from 2016 where you start on Earth and work up to travel between star systems, building Dyson spheres and colonizing the galaxy. It is a resource-chain idler in the old style: mine, generate power, research, and expand into the next tier of materials.

Its GitHub page says development has stopped, but the community kept it alive. Freddec took it over as NG Space Company, a continuation with exploration and system conquest, and there are mobile and desktop ports listed on the same page.

Pick it if you liked Kittens Game style resource management and want it in space. Start with the original for history, or NG Space Company for the maintained version.

Watch out for: The original is no longer developed, so bugs and balance issues will stay as they are.

05

Idle Planet Miner: best for space mining on your phone

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

Idle Planet Miner, from Tech Tree Games (the studio behind The Tower), runs a space mining company across a galaxy. You upgrade mining planets, smelt and craft ore into more valuable items, tap asteroids for rare ore, hire managers, play a supply-and-demand market and terraform outlying planets.

It is free on the App Store with in-app purchases. Our catalog records offline progress and one prestige layer, which suits a phone you check a few times a day.

Pick it if you want a space idler that is genuinely idle and lives in your pocket.

Watch out for: Free to play with purchases; spending is optional but the store is part of the design.

06

Vanguard Galaxy: best for a space trader that idles at the bottom of your screen

Platform: Steam · paid

Vanguard Galaxy is a relaxed space exploration game you can play full screen or park along the bottom of your desktop. You trade, fight, mine asteroids and salvage wrecks across a procedurally generated galaxy, buy new ships and gear, and let an autopilot handle business while you do something else.

It is $8.99 on Steam in Early Access, with 90% positive from 577 reviews as of November 2026.

Pick it if you like the idea of EVE-style ship life without the attention. For more games built to sit on your screen, see our desktop idle games guide.

Watch out for: Windows only and still in Early Access.

07

A Game About Feeding A Black Hole: best for a short black hole game on any device

Platform: Steam, Browser · paid

A Game About Feeding A Black Hole is a short incremental about feeding matter to a black hole by destroying asteroids, then planets, then stars. There are extra game modes and a dark mode, and an earlier version is on itch.io.

It is $6.99 on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux with 87% positive from 2,092 reviews as of November 2026. The Steam page lists full controller support, keyboard-only, mouse-only and touch-only options, which is more input flexibility than most games here.

Pick it for a satisfying afternoon with a clear arc of scale.

Watch out for: Short by design, so the price per hour is higher than the free long-runners.

08

Space Rock Breaker: best for asteroid mining with a Plinko twist

Platform: Steam · paid

Space Rock Breaker is a short incremental where you mine asteroids with guns, missiles and lasers, then drop the ore into an upgradable Plinko machine to turn it into credits. Credits go into a large skill tree, loot boxes add bonuses, and deeper space brings better ores.

It is $2.99 on Steam and has the best score in this list: 96% positive from 2,556 reviews as of November 2026.

Pick it if you want maximum satisfaction per dollar and like watching a big skill tree fill in.

Watch out for: Windows only, and short, so do not expect weeks of play.

09

Deep Space Cache: best for a one-dollar asteroid shooter you can finish

Platform: Steam · paid

Deep Space Cache calls itself a short and simple semi-idle bullet heaven asteroid miner. You shoot asteroids for resources, upgrade generators, convert bits into ship augments and reach the end. The store page gives an average playtime of about 1 to 3 hours.

It is $0.99 on Steam with 93% positive from 696 reviews as of November 2026, and our catalog records an ending.

Pick it when you want a complete game for less than a coffee.

Watch out for: Windows only, and the semi-idle label is accurate: you will be steering and shooting.

10

Human-powered spacecraft: best for retro pixel humor at a tiny price

Platform: Steam · paid

Human-powered spacecraft is a pixel-art clicker in a comedy wrapper. A supernova drains your colony ship's energy, and you get back on course by cranking a jerry-rigged dynamo, then adding a potato farm for power and an antimatter distiller, with a witty ship computer for company and some space octopuses.

It is $0.99 on Steam (it was $0.49 on sale in November 2026) with 93% positive from 723 reviews. The store page also promises no loot boxes.

Pick it if you want a small, funny clicker rather than a system to master.

Watch out for: Windows only and an older, simple game; it is a clicker, so expect to click.

11

The Galactic Tree: best for Prestige Tree fans who want a space theme

Platform: Browser · free

The Galactic Tree is a free, space-themed mod of The Prestige Tree, built on The Modding Tree engine. Our catalog describes about ten hours of layered progression with hidden secrets and content that continues past its end into Infinity.

On galaxy.click it has 4.2 stars and more than 360 favorites. By galaxy.click's recorded play hours, it is the most played browser game in this list.

Pick it if you like reaching a new layer every half hour. Our Modding Tree games list has more in the same format.

Watch out for: It looks like every Modding Tree game: circles and text. Come for structure, not spectacle.

12

Universe Shrinker: best for pure numbers on a cosmic scale

Platform: Browser · free

Universe Shrinker flips the usual space fantasy. Instead of building up, you buy shrinkers that divide the universe's size every second, then move on to shrinking ever larger things on the way to the heat death. It is a free browser game by veprogames.

On galaxy.click it has 4.2 stars and about 150 favorites. It is a small, clean idea, closer to Antimatter Dimensions in spirit than to a space sim.

Pick it if the joy for you is watching an exponent move. Our number go up games guide has more like it.

Watch out for: There is no ship, no map and no story: it is numbers about space, not a space game.

13

Orbit Foundry: best for trying an upcoming space factory for free

Platform: Browser, Steam

Orbit Foundry is an upcoming 2D incremental about building an orbital factory. You place machines next to useful neighbors (Collectors support nearby production, Solar Sails feed Refineries, Drone Bays copy their neighbors), time Perfect pulses for bursts of Stardust and Alloy, then automate and Reforge for permanent upgrades. The campaign spans four sectors and three challenge Directives, with an Open Orbit mode after it.

The Steam page lists it as coming soon for Windows and Mac. A free demo runs in the browser on itch.io now. Our catalog records an ending and offline progress.

Pick it if you want to try something new before everyone else and wishlist it if the demo lands.

Watch out for: Not released yet: the demo is all there is, and details may change before launch.

How to choose an idle space game

Length is the real dividing line in this list.

01

Match it to your time

One evening: Spaceplan, Deep Space Cache, Space Rock Breaker or A Game About Feeding A Black Hole. A weekend: The Galactic Tree. Weeks or longer: Unnamed Space Idle, Space Company and Idle Planet Miner. Our How long to beat page has estimates for the rest of the catalog.

02

Match it to how idle you want it

Truly idle: Idle Planet Miner, which records offline progress, and Vanguard Galaxy's autopilot. Active: To The Core, Deep Space Cache and Space Rock Breaker all need you steering. In between: Unnamed Space Idle, which runs fights on its own but asks for build decisions.

03

Match it to your device

Browser: Space Company, The Galactic Tree, Universe Shrinker, the Orbit Foundry demo and Unnamed Space Idle on galaxy.click. Mac on Steam: Spaceplan and A Game About Feeding A Black Hole. Phone: Idle Planet Miner and Unnamed Space Idle on iPhone. Most of the short Steam games here are Windows only.

Launch one tonight

Start Unnamed Space Idle if you want a long companion, or buy Spaceplan if you want to be done and smiling in two hours. Both cost less than a lunch, and one of them is free.

If you want the full catalog filtered by platform, length and how idle it plays, the finder will do it in a few questions.
