13 Multiplayer Idle Games, Sorted by How You Actually Play Together

Multiplayer idle games sorted by how you play together: co-op, guilds, trading markets, shared worlds and stream chat. 13 picks, each with the catch.

The best multiplayer idle game for most people is Legends of IdleOn, an idle MMO with co-op and cross-platform play that is free on Steam, web and mobile. If you want a player-run economy, Milky Way Idle and Idle Clans are built around trading and clans. If you want to idle with one friend rather than a server, Farm Together 2 and Egg, Inc. do co-op better than any MMO.

"Multiplayer" means very different things in idle games, from a leaderboard to a shared persistent world, so every pick below says exactly what you do with other people. We checked each game's multiplayer features on its Steam or App Store page, not just its tags. Review scores come from all-language Steam counts in our catalog, as of November 2026.

01

Legends of IdleOn: best for an idle MMO you can play with friends on any device

Platform: Steam, Browser, Mobile · free-to-play

How you play together: shared world, parties and cross-platform play. Steam lists it as an MMO with online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer, and its Discord, which the store page puts at more than 200,000 members, is one of the busiest in the genre. You build an account of up to 11 characters, one per class, each training skills like Cooking, Alchemy and Construction while you are offline.

It is free on Steam (now listed as IdleOn - The Incremental MMO), web and mobile, with 77% positive across 29,910 Steam reviews. Pick it if you want the most complete social idle game and do not mind a long commitment; the developer calls it a multi-year experience.

Watch out for: Free-to-play with optional purchases for boosts and pets. The store page says no class, map or skill is paywalled, but the shop is visible and its review score is lower than its popularity suggests.

02

Milky Way Idle: best for a player market, guilds and party dungeons in a tab

Platform: Browser · free

How you play together: trading, guilds, parties and chat. Its Steam page lists trading items, partying up for dungeons, socializing in guilds and climbing leaderboards. You queue actions across 10 non-combat skills and 7 combat skills, with offline progress the store page puts at 10+ hours, and fight monsters fully AFK with configurable auto-abilities.

It is free in the browser on Galaxy and in Early Access on Steam. Pick it if you like RuneScape-style skilling and want an economy where other players' prices matter.

Watch out for: Free with in-app purchases, and it is Early Access on Steam. Like any player market, the economy rewards people who play it as a market.

03

Idle Clans: best for joining a clan for bosses, quests and upgrades

Platform: Steam, Mobile · free

How you play together: clans first. The store page calls the clan system a central part of the game: create or join one to speed up progress, and unlock clan upgrades, clan events, clan bosses and clan quests. There are also raids and a player-driven economy, and your character trains dozens of skills while you are offline.

It is free on Steam (Windows and Mac) and mobile, 74% positive across 1,690 Steam reviews. Pick it if you want an idle MMO where your group has real goals together.

Watch out for: It is still in Early Access, with in-app purchases. Clans vary from very casual to highly organised, so shop around before you commit.

04

Scapewatch: Idle MMO: best for 30 skills, clans, raids and hiscores, all queued

Platform: Steam · paid

How you play together: clans, raids, hiscores and PvP. Released September 25, 2026, Scapewatch is an idle MMO for people, in its words, who actually like the grind. You queue a task across 30 skills, close the tab, and your character keeps gathering, fighting and filling the bank offline. Steam lists online co-op, PvP and cross-platform multiplayer.

It is $14.99 on Windows and Linux and 86% positive across 297 reviews. Pick it if you want the newest idle MMO with an upfront price instead of a cash shop.

Watch out for: It is new, so its review count is small and its community is still forming. Three DLC are already listed on the store.

05

Egg, Inc.: best for weekly co-op contracts with friends on your phone

Platform: Mobile · free-to-play

How you play together: co-op contracts. The App Store page describes weekly, time-limited Contracts you tackle with friends and other players, each pooling everyone's farms toward one egg target. Between contracts, you build your own chicken empire: hen houses, drivers, research and eggs that eventually leave the planet.

It holds 4.8 out of 5 from about 563,000 App Store ratings. Pick it if your friends are on phones and you want something to coordinate in a group chat.

Watch out for: Built for phones (iOS and Android), so it is not a PC pick. It is free with ads and in-app purchases, including a $9.99 Pro Permit; the App Store listing confirms it contains advertising.

06

Farm Together 2: best for a shared farm with friends that grows while you are away

Platform: Steam · paid

How you play together: true co-op on one farm. Steam lists online co-op, split-screen co-op, cross-platform multiplayer and Remote Play Together, and the store page says you can farm alone or open your farm to friends. Time advances even when you are not online, so crops are waiting when anyone logs back in.

It is $25.99 on Windows and Mac and 93% positive across 3,710 reviews. Pick it if "multiplayer idle" to you means a cozy shared space, not a leaderboard.

Watch out for: It is the most expensive game here, with eight DLC packs, and it is a farming game with idle timers rather than a classic incremental with prestige.

07

Shop Titans: best for running a shop in a city of other players

Platform: Steam · free-to-play

How you play together: guilds and a shared city. You craft and enchant gear, haggle with customers, and send heroes into dungeons for materials. Steam lists it as an MMO with online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer, and guilds are part of the social layer.

It is free on Steam, 78% positive across 16,928 reviews. Pick it if you want a tycoon idler with a social layer and a lot of polish.

Watch out for: Free-to-play from a large publisher, with in-app purchases and timers in the mobile style. It is Windows only on Steam.

08

Birb: best for idling in a park where you can see other players

Platform: Browser · free

How you play together: a shared space and leaderboard. Birb's Steam page says you can see other players moving in real time in the park, chat with the flock and compete on a global leaderboard. Around that, you eat popcorn to mutate your bird, run procedural dungeons, fight bosses and fill a Fishdex at the Moonlit Waters.

It began as a free web game with more than 430,000 hours logged on Galaxy, and reached Steam on October 2, 2026 for $4.99, on Windows, Mac and Linux. Pick it for a light, friendly social idler.

Watch out for: The social side is ambient: you share a park and a leaderboard, not goals. Its Steam release is very recent, so its review score is not yet settled.

09

Screeps: World: best for programmers who want a persistent MMO that runs their code

Platform: Steam · paid

How you play together: competing colonies in one persistent world. You control your colony by writing JavaScript that runs 24/7, harvesting, building, trading with other colonies and fighting players who want the same territory. The store page says you do not have to play constantly to play well: checking in once in a while is enough if your code is good.

It is $19.99 on Windows, Mac and Linux, 87% positive across 1,982 reviews, and open source. Pick it if Bitburner left you wanting other players to out-code.

Watch out for: It is built for people with programming skills, says the store page. PvP is real, so a neighbour's better script can undo your work.

10

CivIdle: best for trading with other players through a global market

Platform: Steam · free

How you play together: a global market and diplomacy. You lead a civilization from hunting and gathering to artificial intelligence across a 100+ technology tree, on a procedurally generated map, building wonders as you go. The store page says you trade resources and engage in diplomacy with other players through a global market.

It is free on Windows, Mac and Linux and 73% positive across 1,136 reviews. Pick it if you want a city-building incremental where other players are trade partners, not raid targets.

Watch out for: Its score is among the lower ones here, and there are paid DLC on the store. The multiplayer is economic; if you want parties and chat, pick an idle MMO instead.

11

ClickRaid: best for a party clicker where your class buffs the group

Platform: Steam · paid

How you play together: lobbies and classes. Inspired by Clicker Heroes and Tap Titans, ClickRaid puts you in a lobby with other players, and the class you pick has effects on the rest of your party. The store page is blunt: the game is not meant for solo play, and it tells you to pick a lobby with more than one person in it.

It is $4.99 on Windows and Linux, 80% positive across 291 reviews. Pick it if you want the Clicker Heroes loop with a group.

Watch out for: It dates from 2017 and depends on other people being online. Check recent activity before buying, because a quiet lobby defeats the point.

12

Rock Simulator 2: best for sitting quietly with friends as rocks

Platform: Steam · paid

How you play together: co-op company. You are a rock, unlocking over 100 rocks at a deliberately slow pace, and the store page invites you to sit with friends in silence or chat while the sun sets. There is a leaderboard for how long you can simply be, which is either profound or very funny depending on your mood.

It is $2.99 on Windows, 93% positive across 446 reviews. Pick it if you want the calmest possible multiplayer idle game to leave running on a call.

Watch out for: There is very little game here, on purpose. It also has in-app purchases and two DLC.

13

LurkBait Twitch Fishing: best for streamers who want viewers to idle together in chat

Platform: Steam · paid

How you play together: your Twitch chat is the player base. You add LurkBait as a stream overlay, and viewers cast lines with chat commands, channel points, bits, subs or gifted subs. Casts queue automatically so nobody misses a turn, and you can create custom catches with your own images while the game runs itself.

It is $7.00 on Windows and 98% positive across 400 reviews. Pick it if you stream and want an idle game your audience plays with you.

Watch out for: Useful only if you stream on Twitch. Solo, there is nothing to play.

How to choose a multiplayer idle game

Start with who you want to play with, then how much.

01

Match it to your group

One or two friends: Farm Together 2, Egg, Inc. or Rock Simulator 2. A clan or guild: Idle Clans, Scapewatch or Shop Titans. Strangers and markets: Milky Way Idle or CivIdle. An audience: LurkBait.

02

Match it to how social you want to be

Some games here only share a leaderboard or a park (Birb, Rock Simulator 2). Others make coordination the point (Egg, Inc. contracts, Idle Clans bosses, ClickRaid parties). If you want the full idle MMO experience, our idle MMO guide goes deeper.

03

Match it to how you pay

Scapewatch, Farm Together 2, Screeps, ClickRaid, Rock Simulator 2 and LurkBait cost money up front. IdleOn, Milky Way Idle, Idle Clans, Shop Titans, Egg, Inc. and CivIdle are free with in-app purchases. In multiplayer games, shops matter more, because other players can buy what you grind for.

Invite one friend tonight

If you have a friend on a phone, start an Egg, Inc. contract. If you have a friend on PC, open a Farm Together 2 farm. If you want a whole community, install IdleOn and join its Discord.
